CHAPTER 3: DISCOVERIES OF MANY KINDS

"Errrr" Ivy intoned, the noise emerging like a mantra from the back of her throat.

"Erghhh" Osanna chimed in, as if desperate to get in her two cents. "At least you didnt have to get rid of the snake."

Ivy quirked her brows and took a deep breath, she actually, rather wished she had. She IMMEDIATLEY shook that thought from her mind, Ivy had not been in any sort of relationship in at least 7 years, and she did not care to be, she usually intimidated men away.

"Well, what do we do now?" Osanna said as she made her way to the front door.

She heard no response, so she turned and tilted her head at Ivy, who seemed to be staring off blankly into space"IVY CARIAD!" Her friend's head whipped around and she snapped to attention.

"Sorry...thinking...what did you say?"

Osanna gave her a weird, appraising glance but said nothing, pressing Ivy when she was obviously in thought was a bad idea.

"I said what do we do now?"

Ivy took a deep breath and joined Osanna at the door.

"You know I wished he had mentioned my Quidditch skills."

"OH GODS IVY! We all know you were the best seeker Puddlemere United has ever seen...we all know your still a reservist for the team, and that you would be playing were it not for the injury."

"Gonna play next season..." Ivy muttered. "But to answer your question...We do, I suppose, exactly what we are told"

Osanna and Ivy both seemed to bristle at this, neither one of them really loved being told what to do by anyone, Ivy however seemed to be taking this better than Osanna had expected. She still said nothing to Ivy however while they entered their home.

George bounded into the room, nearly knocking Ivy over in an effort to tackle Osanna. Ivy dodged the attack and sat down at the table, idly rapping her black nails against the tabletop in a rhythmic stacatto.

"There has GOT to be something...."

Osanna hushed Ivy with a wave of her hand, and just as quickly brushed the masks underneath her cloak with a quick flick of her wrist, she gave Ivy a patented "HUSH" look and casually lit a cigaerette.

"What in THE Hell...." Ivy began; she shut up just as quickly however, for fluttering softly, quietly outside their window was the same owl that had followed them...

The two girls chatted idly, as if they didnt notice, and once the owl had taken wing, they wisely waited another 10 minutes before resuming discussion.

"Well THAT was interesting" Ivy remarked coolly. "It seems we are being spied upon."

"Obviously" Osanna muttered her aqua eyes settling on the window where the owl had been.

"At least we know who the offending party is" Osanna finished, shaking a cigarette from her case.

George lit it for her without comment.

"So it would seem..." Ivy commented, deftly flicking ashes into the gilt ashtray at her side. "It certainly does change things, a certain measure of discreetness will have to be used..."

Osanna nodded and shifted her eyes back to the window, as if she expected something else to pop up.

Ivy allowed her blue eyes to stray there also, as if she to had an odd feeling. She hesitated for a moment, then it happened, faster than either girl could realize.

There was once again a fluttering noise...Ivy peered at the window.........and said nothing, but her look of shock was all Osanna needed, she gazed over as well.

The new intruder only remained a moment; as soon as it was gone Osanna closed the curtains with a yank.

"That was NOT the same owl!" Osanna commented.

Ivy shook her head slowly. "It was a Eagle-Owl, like that which delivered the letter, only the MALFOY'S use eagle-owls."

Osanna said nothing, she only gritted her teeth and hissed softly.

"Well, that settles it, we keep the CURTAINS CLOSED!"

They didnt sleep much that night, constantly waking up to strange noises that at one time seemed commonplace in the night.

The next day was the official first day of term. That meant lessons, pupils and rules. Ivy and Osanna hated all of these, but they had to keep up the front if they wished to become DeathEaters.

In the Staff room Ivy and Osanna were alone, they had risen early to plan.

"How the hell are we going to get information on Dumbledore?" Osanna complained, "Surely if there was some it would have been found by now?"

"Well Ive been thinking. You remember our term and a half at Durmstrang?" Ivy asked

"Sure, that was the quidditch tampering throw out yes?"

"Yes that was it. There was a rumor among the 7th years that one of the headmasters in a British school was a phony. I heard one story that it was Hogwarts"

"DO you really think Dumbledores a fake? "

"I think its a place to start"

There was another fluttering at the window. It was Snapes Owl again

"Thats it Ive had it" Osanna rose and opened the window, the owl flew in and landed on her leather gloved arm. She tied its leather straps to her arm and shot Ivy a malicious look. "Shall we pay him a visit?"

Ivy copied her friends look and nodded and they set off to Snapes classroom.

They burst through the door, not bothering to knock and marched up to his desk

Snape rose and gave them his best disapproving glare "Can I help you Miss Cariad and Miss October"

Osanna released the Owl. "I believe this belongs to you? Kindly do not spy on us in such an obvious way in the future, we expect more from you." She turned on her heel and marched back out. Ivy, somewhat surprised by her friends outburst raised her brows and followed her. Outside the room she whispered "Well that told HIM. Well done"

"Okay to the library after our classes for research. There must be a spell we can use to get this information"

It wasnt very often that Ivy saw Osanna act like this, but she knew that when it happened to go with the flow, as it would be very productive.

They parted and went to their respective classes. Although Ivy had technically been hired as advanced curses teacher for the upper classmen, due to the lack of a Defense against the dark arts teacher, she was also teaching that class. Today she had Harry Potter and Draco Malfoys year.

When she arrived the class was already seated. She strode to the front and pointed at Draco "You. Come here."

He looked at his friends and mooched over to her.

"Attack me with your best spell" He smirked, took out his wand and shouted "Morphus Incectus"

Ivy pulled out her wand from her cane in a flash "Reflectum" she answered.

The sparks coming from Dracos wand reversed their course and he shrank into a millipede

"Returnum" Ivy commanded and Draco reappeared. She turned to the class, Practice in pairs"

With that she turned deftly on one booted heel and strode back to her desk to watch.... and think for that matter, it was dammn hard to keep a clear head.

Osanna was not having a much better time of it.

She had chosen to bring George into class, figuring it would be a lovely introduction to dragons. Several of the girls however were terrified.

"EEEW! Is it going to BITE me?"

Osanna rolled her eyes, she had the Hufflepuffs today, and they seemed terrified of everything.

"No DEAR George will not bite you, this is merely a introduction to dragons, and I am NOT allowed to bring a bigger example on school grounds."

The girls sighed in relief.

"However using George as a example, we will discuss the different types."

"What do you think" Osanna began. "Is the most dangerous thing about a dragon?"

"It's fire, or ice.... or whatever it is, a young man volunteered.

"While it is admirable that you realize dragons do not only breathe fire, you are incorrect."

"Its teeths! " the same girl who had been so scared earlier shouted.

Osanna shook her head.

"It's claws!" another girl chimed in hopefully.

Osanna shook her head again and finally answered them.

"It's intelligence, she simply stated, tapping one finger against her head. "Some magical creatures have no wits about them...but dragons are entirely different, they can outsmart us often times at our best."

Back in her class Ivy was fighting back a fit of giggles. Malfoy had just managed to transform his friend into a guinea pig.

"Well done Draco" Ivy remarked. Draco smirked and bowed to his new teacher, he was already being a suck-up, but Ivy was willing to dote on him, for the sake of his father's position.

"Thank you teacher" Draco said. "I dont think WEASLEY is doing such a great job though..."

Ronald Weasley had transformed himself into a fish when he had said one word wrong...and now he lay flapping about on the floor.

"Oh dear!" Ivy hissed, and with a wave of her wand she transformed him back. "I was going to start on blocking un-friendly spells, let us move first however on how to avoid BACKFIRES" she said sternly. Weasley blanched
